One of the most significant issues that arises from someone with kidney disease is loss of physical strength and mobility. People begin to lose there ability to climb stair, go for a walk, or go shopping or to their job.

Unfortunately, many healthcare providers and patients make the assumption that loss of these physical abilities is unavoidable and should be accepted. Well, don't accept it! This does not need to be true! There is a proven prescription for increasing strength, endurance, functional abilities, and improving your cardiovascular health. That remedy is: EXERCISE!

Exercise training can bring significant benefits to renal, dialysis, and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients - the same benefits it brings to individuals in the general population, including increased physical work capacity, decreased risk factors for cardiovascular disease, better control of diabetes, and improved psychological status. The well documented benefits of exercise are often denied to renal patients because of an over-cautions assessment of potential risks.
Over the next few weeks we will help show the negative effects renal disease and dialysis have on and individual and the benefits that can be attained by participating in a medically supervised exercise program.
